just in time

12th January 2019, Embleton Bay, 8am

The earliness of sunrise nearly caught me out this morning but I got there in the nick of time to snap this shot. All this colour was a good 15 minutes before the sun rose and by 8:29 most colour had faded and we never saw the sun for cloud.  There was an early bird photographer already set up with his tripod welly-deep in the stream...

Further up the beach a flock of curlews were roosting by the edge of the water.

Disturbed by our approach they took to the wing and flew along the horizon calling melodically before settling behind us.

Half an hour later and the colour had drained from the sky. The grey clouds were thin & high and weaved a delicate tapestry of patterns across the morning.
