worth waiting for

 27th November 2020, Embleton Bay, 7:30am

There was no colour before or during sunrise just a lot of grey cloud but nearly an hour later some beautiful light broke through behind the castle.

nature's pastels

 25th November 2020, Howick, 3pm

A beautiful late afternoon walk.  Gorgeous colours as the light faded.

26th November 2020, Alnmouth, 4pm

All very calm and quiet - Almost eerily quiet with no wind and the sea like a lake.

Tuesday 24 November 2020

In good time

 24th November 2020, Buston, 7:30am

We wandered down the beach road a half hour before sunrise with plenty of colour already in the sky.

Up on Church Hill with 10 minutes to go...

...and down on the sand in time for the first sight of the sun.

safe here

20th November 2020, Embleton Bay, 7:30am

The only hint of sunrise colour this morning...

A very grey morning but the waves were very impressive. An awesome amount of power in them. I was chilly sitting on the dunes but I was glad to not be out there.

do something different

 19th November 2020, Buston, 8am

Hunkered down in the grasses of the dunes this morning to try to keep out of the wind. I love to photograph the light on the grass with the sea in the background but I've done that quite a bit recently (like this one).

I tried a couple of different things. A different angle from low down against the blue sky and using a slow shutter speed to try to capture the whipping movement of the grass in the stiff breeze. I like the idea of "do something different" to make a photograph a bit more interesting.

peeping through

 18th November 2020, Alnmouth, 7am

There was more brightness in the sky 20 minutes before sunrise than at the moment of sunrise itself.

But then the sun briefly shone through a window in the clouds and sent an inviting looking path out across the sand

18th November 2020, Warkworth, 11am

A fantastic run up the beach but then a very windy run back down the beach!

Wednesday 18 November 2020

out the wind

17th November 2020, Alnmouth, 8am

A pretty windy walk up the beach with sand flying

 17th November 2020, Bamburgh, 9:30am

A socially distanced 1:1 PhotoTrail at Bamburgh.  The wind wasn't too bad as we mostly sheltered in the dunes.

Sunday 15 November 2020

there and back again

15th November 2020, Low Newton to Long Nanny, 11am

A fine walk north from Low Newton to Long Nanny but then the rain started and we got very wet all the back...

Watching for blue skies

 13th November 2020, Buston, 8am

If you look just one way,
You see nothing
But grey clouds
Over a grumbling sea

But turn your head
And you see
The blue sky
That is coming our way

We wandered for quite a while under grey skies with a bit of rain in the air. The forecast was that this would pass over and sure enough there was some brightness out to the west.

What I didn't expect was the sudden change over the course of a few seconds when the sun broke through and cast a beautiful warm light across the sand.

It's been said many times that, for a landscape photographer, the best weather is changeable weather. Then all you have to do is be in the right place at the right time and don't miss the moment.
