simple sunrise

 17 Jan 22, Alnmouth, 8am

A pretty simple sunrise view.

Popped into Barter Books for a breakfast treat...

all about the moon

 16th Jan 22, Warkworth - Alnmouth, 3:30pm

All about the moon this afternoon.

running from sunrise

14th Jan 22, Boulmer to Howick, 8am

Half an hour before sunrise and the colours are beautiful

I had to keep looking over my shoulder to watch for sunrise

Howick bay - one of my favourite places on the Northumberland coast.

Back at Boulmer an hour after sunrise and all is blue.

here and there

 13th Jan 2022, Kidlandlee to Low Newton, 8:30 - 9:30

Up in the hills for sunrise then down to the coast an hour later for a guided walk.

Off inland

 12th Jan 2022, Kidlandlee, 8:30am

Off inland for a day and a night.

En route to Kidlandlee I stopped off for a run up and down the valley road as the sun rose somewhere behind the hills.

Looking back from Kidlandlee and this little part of the horizon was beautifully lit.

Life Goes On...

 11th Jan 2022, Embleton Bay, 8am

Meanwhile, the sun will still rise every morning

And the waves will keep on rolling

And I like to be here when I can.

You can miss one dog but still love another one...

RIP Daisy

 10th January 2022

RIP Daisy.  Star of this blog since 2010 she'll be sadly missed.

heartwood

 9th January 2022, Longhorsley, 9am

The fallen trees from storm Arwen have been cleared with a chainsaw.

Such beautiful trees right to their heartwood.  This one is a Scots Pine

9th January 2022, Warkworth, 3pm

A very mellow day on the beach.

10th January 2022, Low Newton, 2pm

Another WW2 block that I've never seen before.  This one contains 3 names Wright, Silk and Ramsay.  Silk is a local name so probably a relation of that family who was in the Home Guard in 1940.

The Herald of Sunrise

 7th January 2022, Alnmouth, 8am

A minute or two before sunrise and this cloud was lit up beautifully from below the horizon.

It glowed vividly as if announcing the imminent arrival of the sun.

As dawn broke, the cloud, its moment of glory having passed, faded to grey.

Sunrise didn't look that promising from my bedroom window but it was worth the trip to the beach.

gentle winter

 6th January 2022, Rothbury, 9am

As we walked the snow started to gently fall.

Don't Tell

 4th January 2022, Howick, 8am

A very chilly morning - frosty and clear,

I was told a few years ago about a 'secret wave' on the Northumberland Coast which is excellent to surf but only for the best surfers because it runs out onto rocks rather than a beach so it's not for the beginner.  I was told not to mention it widely.  Over the years I've seen only a handful of people surfing it.

Today the car park was full and there were 5 surfers in the water with another 7 walking down and yet another van on its way as I drove home.  Clearly it's not a secret any more.

One surfer told me it was busy cos the conditions were perfect.

I waited for about 10 minutes but saw no-one actually ride any waves so I gave it up as a spectator sport and went home.

Back home after a few days away...
