early dark

27th November 2013, Christon Bank, 3:30pm

As we get close to winter solstice the sunset is in its full glory by 3:30pm and it's all but dark by 4:30.

This beautiful sky was photographed and shared on facebook by photographers the length and breadth of Northumberland

28th November 2013, Low Newton, 8am

...and then there are the winter days where the colour disappears completely and b/w photography is the thing.

same but different

26th November 2013, Embleton Bay, 8am

Another frosty morning and the car was an igloo. Since I was convinced by a friend that warm water doesn't crack your windscreen I have a new quick start on such mornings.

It was well worth getting up for any way...

A shot not dissimilar to yesterday but it shows how the same time and same place still gives a unique view every single day.

Monday 25 November 2013

end to end

22nd November 2013, Howick 3pm

We walked in shadow but on top of the bank above the path the sun was setting brightly illuminating Daisy's fur.

24th November 2013, Bowden Doors 3pm

We arrived on the moor above Belford just as the sun set like Cheviot was a volcano...

...then walked along the deserted, cold crags where I used to rock-climb on warm summer days of youth.

25th November 2013, Embleton Bay 8am and 3pm

Dawn...

Dusk...

golf colours in nature

22nd November 2013, Low Newton, 8am

So nice to be out and about on a peaceful beach in calm weather after yesterday's storm.

Pastel shades are much beloved of the golfing community but they have their origin in nature's palette.

Here we have baby blue, gorgeous grey, pastel pink, pleasant peach and brilliant beige

come snow come shine

17th November 2013, Boulmer, 10am

Lugworm hunters on the beach at low tide.

18th November 2013, Low Newton, 3pm

The sun was dropping to the horizon and giving a 'golden hour' quality to the light.

A lonely hawthorn bush against pastel pink clouds

19th November 2013, Low Newton, 8am

The big clouds to the left of this scene balance the composition but they were bringing snow

before they arrived we met old friend Buffy who's a regular visitor to our little corner of the world.

The first winter precipitation of the year was like micro-hail. Soon the proper snow started and the camera was put away in a deep pocket.

searching high and low

12th November 2013, Low Newton, 8am

Gentle sky and a nice moon placed just right.

Soon the sun was up high enough for shadows to appear

Saturday 9 November 2013

Alone again or...

9th November 2013, Embleton Bay, 7am

Just me and the dog when we arrived on Embleton Bay. These winter sunrises are a very special part of my life these days.

Here are a few shots as we walked along and the sun came up.

I'll be presenting some of my photographs and songs at Embleton at 2pm on Tuesday. It's a WI meeting but it's open to all. E-mail me for details if you fancy coming along...

We did eventually flush another photographer out of the dunes when we climbed up the big dune for this shot!

Friday 8 November 2013

Friends

6th November 2013, Dunstanburgh, 8am

It was a busy morning: Daisy met her sisters Bess and Lola, along with Mia, Jaz, Dexter and Hitch and then Freddy the saluki and new friend Sophie the lurcher They all had a good old run around as lurchers like to do.

8th November 2013, Low Newton, 8am

I like a nice empty beach but Daisy likes company and had a good run around with a border collie visitor as well as her local pals Floyd and Milo.
