tower in the mist

29th April 2014, Dunstanburgh Castle, 8am

Having done misty trees I thought I'd see what the Castle looked like in the fog this morning. I couldn't see it until I was a couple of hundred yards away and then it suddenly loomed dramatically out of the mist.

I liked the contrast between the sharp detail of the lichen rocks and the misty castle

Misty Shapes

27th April 2014, Fallodon Woods, 6am

Up early to a misty world where roads disappear into the near distance and shapes starkly man-made contrast with the organic world of nature.

We wandered up the road, through the woods and round the fields with not a breath of wind to disturb the delicate atmosphere.

Easter ends

21st April 2014, Newton Point, 5pm

An evening walk notable for the absence of the Easter crowds.

We stood on the rocks, looked at things and chilled out.

These two shots of Daisy show the difference the direction of the sun makes at any given moment.

22nd April 2014, Craster, 10am

Today's miniPhotoTrail looked at different ways to photograph the same lichen on the rocks at Craster...

...then we stopped at the harbour for a different angle.

22nd April 2014, Christon Bank, 9pm

Wandering home through the misty village after a musical evening.  The iPhone has chosen a high ISO for this which has generated lots of characterful graininess.

Easter 2014

19th April 2014, Embleton Bay, 7am

20th April 2014, Long Nanny, 6am

It was grey skies when we set out this morning but when we reached Long Nanny the sun broke through and all was beautiful for a few minutes..

21st April 2014, Embleton Bay, 7am

Just the odd patch of sun through the clouds this morning. We walked along the shrinking beach and then climbed up to our perch to watch the sea and the world going by...

Friday 18 April 2014

different views

18th April 2014, Embleton Bay, 7am

Good Friday and a few folk on the beach even at 7am. It was lovely in the sun even if it's still blowing a cold breeze.

From the top of the dune I stare out across the beach and the sea to the castle and beyond...

Daisy sits beside me (on the lead) staring the opposite way scanning the golf course for Things to Chase.

Happy Easter from me and Daisy...

Tuesday 15 April 2014

colour and absence

15th April 2014, Embleton Bay, 8am

Even bright blue days get the b&w treatment sometimes.

I just found out that Earldean - one of my few doggy-walking pals and a big Daisy fan died a few weeks ago and I never knew.  It was nice to meet her dog Milo this morning and to know he's in good hands.  I'll always hear her voice shouting "DAISY!!" like a long lost friend every time she met her.

Earldean featured in the Robson Green programme but they edited out all the interesting stuff; her knowledge of the history and life in Low Newton in times past was sadly ignored.  RIP and thanks for your friendship.

Blue Skies and Bobble Hats

13th April 2014, Low Newton, 7am

Despite the blue skies and calm, sun-kissed waters, it's still bobble hat weather.

Nice birds today. A flock of sand martins were investigating the sandy cliffs where the dunes have been eroded but they probably found the beach got a bit busy later on.  This Egyptian Goose was at the flooded field. (Thanks to Iain Robson at AONB for the id!)

14th April 2014, Low Newton, 7:30 am

A lazy morning.  Temperature still in single figures and a biting wind but it was nice to wander slowly along today.

Daisy spotted a doggy pal in the distance...

..and went to say hello.
