springtime vibes

 23rd April 26, Rothbury, 9am

Sunny and warm with wild flowers, blue skies and a happy dog.

one dog further

 20th April 26, Howick, 9am

Only Ruby came along today meaning we could walk further and faster although it was a day for dawdling.

20th April 26, Shilbottle, 5pm

Alnwick garden's cherry orchard is in full bloom just now but I had my own free blossom lining my path.

beach and road

 19th April 2026, Warkworth, 9am

A sunny start on the beach

19th April 26, Longhorsley, 4pm

An afternoon run down the long and winding road.

up an at em

 18th April 26, Warkworth, 6am

Ah, the joys of waking up in time for sunrise! A quick check out the window and off I go.

Glad I thought to make a flask of coffee and a jammy piece.

walking and cycling

16th April 26, Shilbottle 4pm

Nature reclaiming the rusty stump of an old lamp-post. Life is a powerful force.

16th April 26, Shilbottle - Alnwick - Alnmouth - Shilbottle, 10am

Cycling isn’t about pedalling, pedalling, pedalling.

Especially on a breezy day like this, that’s the worst part. Cycling is about finding yourself somewhere beautiful and peaceful a few miles from home. It’s about relaxing for a while. Maybe it’s about cake and chatting if that’s your thing.

Then, sure, there’s a bit more pedalling but not relentlessly. It’s not a race.

 16th April 26, Buston, 7am

A day off from walking the dog meant I could wander my own paths.

river running

 22nd March 26, Rothbury, 4pm

A lovely warm day to run by the Coquet.

 21st March 26, Buston, 8am

Happiness is a sandy schnoot and paddling paws

21st March 26, Longhorsley, 6pm

winter trees and springtime skies

kippers, birds and dogs

 18th March 26, Craster, 6pm

Ruby met some gannet (but not real ones).

The kipper smokehouse dominates Craster as the smokey aroma wafts along the streets and into houses and the pub. Sometimes you can smell the smoking fish from Embleton Bay, carried on what I used call a "kipper wind".

blue day

 3rd March 26, Newton Point, 5pm

A beautiful blue day that lasted long enough to squeeze in a cheeky walk after work.

I don't know who arranges the stones, seashells and other found items but they've been doing it for years.

new normal

 2nd March 26, Warkworth, 10am

Getting back to the new normal.

Thank goodness for little Ruby who makes it all easier.

gone but not forgotten

 28th Feb 2026, Bumpy Road, 10am

We scattered the ashes of our beautiful Henry today at his favourite beach for swimming and playing.

It's a cruel world sometimes to lose a wee pal when he was only half way through his life.

There was the lightest shower of rain for just a few seconds as we laid him to rest.  So beautiful.

RIP Henry

28th Feb 2026, Rothbury, 5pm

Beautiful light shone across the land as we walked and exchanged memories and tears.

from the hills to the sea

 14th Feb 26, Rothbury, 9am

The first blue sky day for a long time.

Unfortunately I was in a black and white mood...

14th Feb 26, Warkworth, 4pm

High cloud has drifted over us now.

A prelude to the snow and rain

That has been foretold.

In winter, we can only be grateful

For a briefly bright respite

And bid farewell to the fading blue

As it dissipates over the horizon

21st Feb 25, Warkworth

Recent storms have revealed a layer of purple sand.  Animal, vegetable or mineral?

22nd Feb 26, Simonside,

Ruby's first unassisted walk up Simonside (last time she was carried part of the way)

23rd Feb 26, Hauxley

25th Feb 26, at home

Across the rooftops
and through the wires
I can see a line of sea
and, today,
the sunrise.

25th Feb 26, Bamburgh Castle

Patterns in the mosses and lichens of the old walls.

27th Feb 26, Bamburgh Castle

Just a beautiful morning but then a fulmar passed by...
