mist-bow

1st July 2018, Embleton Bay, 7am

A dense sea fret on Embleton Bay this morning but it was starting to break up by 7:30. As the sun broke through I was briefly joined by a "mist-bow'...another of nature's rare delights.

Now home, 1 mile inland, and it's bright sunshine and breakfast in the garden.

A great PhotoWalk with two young people whose company I really enjoyed.  Very bright weather and runners going up and down the beach on some sort of coast run.

There was literally not a cloud in the sky.

A cloudy start to the day reflected beautifully in the Skaith.  I was enjoying the cool air.

I walk with the dog on the same beach pretty much every day and pretty much at the same time, and I have walked here for 10 years (8 years with Daisy). I have seen it in many weathers and in all seasons.

Some mornings it is not particularly inspiring and some mornings I have other things on my mind. Some mornings I force myself to find the photograph that's waiting in the landscape (this can be a useful exercise).

Then there are mornings like this one. Today the light was extraordinary with a bank of sea fret sitting just off shore lit by a high, bright sun. Today the photographs were not difficult to find and I wandered up and down the beach as the mist ebbed and flowed over an ever-changing landscape.

I'll be back tomorrow and the day after just to see what there is to see...

A very warm afternoon - too hot for me and Daisy and a lot of pollen in the air from hay baling in the field next to the path.  Daisy found a spot to cool off and I was OK once I was upwind of the dust.

It was decidedly cool on the beach and the fret threatened to break up but then closed in again.

Still, I hear it's a heatwave so if you're coming to the beach you're going to wear beachwear!

Others were more appropriately dressed...

Back home (2 miles inland) and the sun was bright and warm.

As we sat in the Ship Inn playing music last night the blue skies faded to grey and the temperature dropped as the fret rolled in. Soon you couldn't see the sea from the pub.

This morning it was blissfully cool and beautifully calm down on the beach. Out in the mist the coble fisherman started his day while up in the dunes, me and Daisy got wet legs from the profusion of water droplets clinging like jewels to the marram grass.

This is Northumberland and I love it. If you don't like it, there are sunny places elsewhere...

The bright blue skies contrasted with the green of the hay meadow.
