Spring springs?

Beautiful light on the grass and a gorgeous blue sky. Overall a grand late afternoon.

Daisy is bathed in Golden Light as she plays around in the long grass. A bit warm from running round judging by her breath in the air.

Has spring sprung? Every year we think of snowdrops as the harbingers of spring but they're really midwinter flowers. You can tell the variety by the green pattern on the petals (here they're like sycamore seeds but I don't know what that means). Lovely day today though did I mention?

Golden Hound

dull but interesting

9th February11, Embleton Bay, 8am

Training today with Stephen. Very nice to meet you and thanks for the mac tips! Weather a bit miserable but the grey skies were not entirely without interest.

First though we came across these mesa-like mini pillars of sand. Sand has been deposited by wind and high tide and then the rain has caused a flood and the river has cut through the sand. Very hard to get an angle/composition that shows them to their best. Here's my best attempt.

A lonely limestone boulder stands out amongst the black 'cannonball rocks' below the castle. A high contrast scene requiring two exposures with subsequent combination in Photoshop.

A gentle, soft sky out over the sea requiring no effort whatsoever.

ecology or economics

8th February11, Embleton Bay, 8am

Very nice sunrise this morning. It was frosty but soon warmed up and I was way over-dressed in my duvet jacket and thermal troos, so we had to head for home earlier than I would have wanted.

Oh look, sustainable ecomomic growth is on the horizon... another 3D, HD, Digital, Plasma telly anyone?

Changing Light

7th February11, Newton Links, 8am

First thing on the beach and the sunlight is filtered through the clouds giving a blue/grey light.

Within minutes, the sun shines through and reveals the golden warmth of the early light.

Daisy looks very pleased with herself to be 'Queen of the Castle'

Acres of sand reflect the sky

subtle beauty

Beautifully grey today. The details in the clouds were subtle but lovely.

spectacular but uncomfortable

4th February11, Seahouses, 2pm

Very windy today. Do we go to the woods where there is shelter but a branch might fall on us, or do we brave the exposed beach? In the end we headed for a beach with protective dunes.

The dunes weren't particularly sheltered though and the grass whipped about in the sun.

Looking out to the Farne Islands over the choppy sea.
