waiting games

1st February 22, Bamburgh, 9am

Over the years I’ve seen these beaches in all sorts of weather and under all sorts of light. 

Today was very windy and the sand was whipping along under a new sun above the castle. But what was remarkable to me about this morning was the lack of people. Bamburgh is normally one of the busiest beaches hereabouts from early morning to sunset. 

As I was considering the empty beach two people appeared wandering up the windswept sand. Perhaps they were thinking the same thing...

1st February 22, Alnmouth, 3pm

A very high tide flooding the estuary 

Three grey plovers wait for the tide to turn.

Once safely past the birds I returned to the water's edge.
