on seeing the sun

30th November 2014, Embleton Bay, 8am

We've had weeks of grey, claggy weather and it was lovely to see the sun rising over the sea this morning.

I know that this mild and damp, seemingly unrelenting 'no-man's-land' between bright autumn colours and crisp winter days must surely soon give way to cold and clear skies.

I never thought I'd long for the opportunity to scrape frost from my windscreen, to tramp through the snow and to see the rare, secret beauty of a frozen beach in winter. I only hope that when it comes, it comes at a weekend...

rough

16th November 2014, Football Hole, 8am

A rough sea this morning and nice to see the sun (most of my dog-walks are in the dark these days)

Exmoors

15th November 2014, Low Newton, 10am

Phill's PhotoTrail today and we had a pleasant two hours chatting photography. these Exmoor ponies have arrived at Newton Pool recently. I gather they'll graze the reed beds and turn the pool area into a fen.

A bit out of place but I liked this rope on a boat in the boatyard too...

watch both ways

7th November 2014, Howick Shore, 4:30pm

Daisy had spotted something from the top of the bank above the path.

7th November 2014, Embleton Bay, 7am

A characteristically beautiful sunrise

From the top of our dune Daisy watched inland...

...until she spotted two doggy pals on the beach below.

First day of winter?

5th November 2014, Newton Links, 4:30pm

It felt like the first day of winter. Properly chilly, properly empty, properly beautiful.

As the geese fly home for the winter
And the summer's green brightness is gone
And the sun rises late in the morning
With few there to witness the dawn

And with the cold comes blissful peace
No castles of sand remain
A place for those who want to be
Where peace and beauty reigns

Out to the west there was dark colour in the sky

Above us the geese honked their way across the indigo sky

The passing rain clouds reflected on the wet sand

I like the out of focus feel of this shot

orange to red

28th October 2014, Newton Links, 7am

Orange dominated the colour spectrum this morning.

Zoomed in to the brightest part of the sky the effect is even more beautiful

We hung about until the sun rose.

29th October 2014, Low Newton, 7am

In contrast to yesterday the light was towards the red...

The sun was not yet up but the sleeping occupants of this beach hut were missing the amazing light show.
