windy morning

23rd Sep12, Embleton Bay, 9am

Gail's training course today and the forecast didn't look promising. The autumnal ferns were blowing in the wind...

It mostly stayed dry and the spectacular sea was worth braving the elements for...

fireworks

22nd Sep12, Newton Links, 7pm

A lovely walk as the sun set very impressively. The walk was spoiled by selfish, thoughtless people letting off fireworks on the beach when Daisy was only 100 yds away. Poor pup is traumatised and any loud noise today has left her tail-between-the-legs and shaking. Stick to organised displays please. Think of other people's pets - and livestock and horses too when you're in the country.

23rd Sep12, Newton Links, 8am

Beautiful light this morning. This one needs to be left in colour.

23rd Sep12, Goswick, 4pm

People had told me how lovely Goswick was and I'd never been so we dropped by today. It's certainly an amazing landscape (or sandscape if you will). Sadly there was evidence of a few petrol driven things being driven across the sand so it may be our peaceful visit was a lucky one. We're fortunate to have the National Trust looking after our beaches...

shapes in the sand

19th Sep12, Newton Links, 8am

Very chilly but nice and bright. A line of WWII defences lies half-buried near Long Nanny.

Looking back and Daisy's fur's backlit by the morning sun.

On the Phone

16th Sep12, Embleton Bay, 9am

Dodging the showers with Alison on her PhotoWorkshop this morning. Huge glowering clouds above Embleton bay. All today's shots are from the iPhone.

Among the ferns' autumn turning fronds are flowers still blooming.

16th Sep12, Newton Links, 5pm

The showery weather hung around all day filling the sky with dramatic cloudscapes. Su is ahead of me on the path.
Daisy has a shake.

coiled spring

14th Sep12, Newton Links, 8am

Bright, breezy and with enough rain in the air for a rainbow above the beach.

Up on the dunes the beach is empty apart from a single horse.

Daisy had a run and then cooled her paws in the sea...
This is Daisy's 'coiled spring' pose - waiting for me to throw the ball.

Two days of photography

10/11th Sep12, Dunstanburgh and Howick,

A two day training course is the best way to get to grips with photography as we have so much time to cover everything and practice what we've been talking about. So it was for Stephen and Pat on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday we had a cloudy day and wandered up to Dunstanburgh Castle and the cannonball boulders as the sky glowered above us.

Next day we went to Howick in bright sunshine. I fancied B&W for both days.

It's worth noting that geologically speaking, these two headlands are twin sisters being opposite ends of the whin sill. That's why we find cannonball boulders at both locations.

Samphire Bay

8th Sep12, Newton Links, 5pm

A beautiful evening wandering along the dunes and beach as the sun dropped from the sky. We came across a bed of samphire on the salt marshes where you'd expect it.

As I lay on the sand to get my vantage point Daisy seemed like a giant!

Patterns on the beach

Daisy's long legs made even longer by the sinking sun.
