talking sense

8th March 2017, Newton Point, 8am

From our vantage point here the view was nice but it was all my senses that came to life.

The colour of the blue, blue sky
The feel of the cool wind
The sound of the skylarks high above and all around us
The seasonal smell of the gorse warm in the full sun.
The taste...well, there was nothing to taste so we went home for breakfast.

Stop and take the time to live the experience you are having.

I like this quote from one of my favourite landscape photographers Colin Prior

"…and it’s not just the visual information you're after - you need to absorb everything.  If you want to be a great photographer you need to switch on all of your senses it’s not just vision. We’ve got to smell things and we hear things, and that informs the photograph."

inspiration from friendly faces

7th April 2017, Beadnell Bay, 7am

I always really enjoy showing my photographs and playing my music at HPB Lucker Hall (which I do every week). Last night it was to an audience who seemed to really 'get' what I try to do with my photography. Their interest and reaction inspired me this morning to see what was to be seen on the beach. Maybe some of these will make it into a slideshow in the future...

who's beach is it?

4th April 2017, Embleton Bay, 7am

The beach was all ours.  The sun was slowly coming up through a band of clouds changing colour all the time.  Soon it would come clear of the cloud and the colours fade to blue to let the day begin.  Then the beach is for others.

It's toad season.  This toad was hanging out in a divet on the golf course.

29th March 2017, Embleton Bay, 7am

Out a bit earlier but a fair few folk around. I think they'd watched the sunrise which I'd missed by half an hour.

Still lots to see as we walked up the beach.  Starting with two views from the same location.

Generally I like to keep moving to find photographs as I walk but this morning yielded two contrasting compositions from the same spot. As my feet slowly sank into the wet sand (another good reason to keep moving) I snatched a couple of shots of the morning sun and the beach before moving on.

Daisy stole my hat which made her very happy.
