worth waiting

 2nd Jan 2023, Newton, 8:30am

There wasn't much sunrise due to a big black cloud but as it headed off southwards it left behind a fine crispy cold morning

up and down

 28th December 22, Warkworth, 9am

A dull morning but always a pleasure to run up the path and down the beach.

romance

 22nd December 22, Embleton Bay, 8am

Waiting for sunrise and it could've gone any way.

Soon enough a patch of bright colour appeared behind the castle.

Very nice up close through the telephoto lens

But that was it for sunrise and the sky settled into a myriad of patterns and cloud textures.

Later in the morning.  Tis the season for romantic walks...

solstice shadows

 21st December 2022, Buston, 3pm

Today is the shortest day of the year.

As the sun dropped to the horizon, the grasses on the summit of the dunes were lit brightly with a final flourish of golden sunlight.

At the same time they were being whipped into a merry solstice dance by a stiff breeze.

Far below the sea rolled on into the shadows.

May the longer days to come be happy & peaceful.

after the shops

 20th December 2022, Bamburgh, 9am

After some blissfully quiet early grocery shopping it was up to Bamburgh for a guided walk in beautiful weather (until it rained!)

down the road

 16th December 2022, Buston, 9am

Down the icy beach road towards sunrise.

A cold-weather mirage has Coquet Island floating out of the sea. All around the island there were patches of sky seeming to float in the sea. All to do with bending of the light in the cold air (apparently).

Frozen leaves trapped under ice.
