model shoot

27th July 2014, Beadnell Bay, 6:30 am

Lots of rain overnight but the blue skies are back and it already pleasantly warm at 6:30. Warm enough for Daisy to want to cool her paws...

A very deliberate composition to meet the specs for a magazine feature needing portrait format and lots of blank sky for text.  Shame Daisy didn't look happier. You can't get the models these days...

A New Dawn

26th July 2014, Embleton Bay, 4:30 am

This weekend represents an exciting, positive new dawn in my life for various reasons which will become better known in due course.

What better way to start this new phase of my life than a stupidly early sunrise walk on Embleton Bay?

I don't think these images need any words...

This has been a grand summer. Lots of wandering along sunny beaches by sparkling seas.

pretty futile

16th July 2014, Dunstanburgh shore, 8am

It's all the rage to leave piles of stones on beaches etc.

It's pointless but pretty - especially nice when it's done with a bit of artistic skill...

flowers and burying bugs

3rd July 2014, Low Newton, 8am

A nice walk with Neil today: We looked at landscapes and wild flowers and things.

A sexton beetle. Nicrophorus interruptus we think by looking through our big book of creepy crawlies. A sexton is the person in charge of a graveyard at a church and these beetles are named the sexton beetle because they bury dead animals birds etc and then their larvae consume them underground. These and other burying beetles are the reason there aren't more dead birds lying around the countryside (if you've ever wondered). Bonny and useful....

friendly farms

1st July 2014, Howick, 8am

Bright and warm again down at Howick. Waves glittered in the morning sun.

I spotted a cowrie shell which was a nice bonus.

Howick Seahouses Farm is a member of the Environmental Stewardship scheme so they have nature friendly crops.  This field of barley was full of wild flowers with bees feeding happily.  By harvest the barley will have risen above the flowers.
