Big City

I found myself in Alnwick this morning at dog-walking time so we went off to explore. We found a very nice spot where I've seen others with dogs in the past. Needless to say Trooper loved the snowy grass while I enjoyed the light and the trees.

A harbinger of Spring is the appearance of walkers other than dog-walkers on the beach. They have a choice so are only here in the fair weather. We hardy souls walk our pups in all weathers and all seasons.

The puddles were covered in ice but this one puddle had green algae frozen in its depths. The algae were still photosynthesizing and the bubbles of oxygen were trapped in the ice. Beautiful shapes...

All Froze Up

A beautiful morning and the hard frost allowed us to visit the Howick coastal path (which is too muddy unless it's frozen).

The Brits are famous for talking about the weather but when it can change from this morning to this afternoon like this, who can blame us?

Self Portraits

Instead of ice and snow we got rain and plenty of it.

Trooper chose his traditional all-weather fur and I went waterproof from tip to toe. Pretty wild out-and-about with a very dramatic sea.

No Snow

The weather forecasters err on the side of exaggeration these days and the media are desperate for something sensational. I'm sure London was terrible yesterday but it wasn't "the worst snowfall in the UK for 18 years" as I heard this morning. Up here, it wasn't even the worst snowfall this winter.

It was however fairly unpleasant and miserable.

Arctic Conditions

We had a half inch of snow overnight and two power cuts. Not much to get excited about up here. The S of England gets snowy weather so rarely that there is no infrastructure to deal with it. London has therefore ground to a halt. Meanwhile Trooper and I went to the beach...

Before we even got to the beach (and while it was half-light) Trooper was out for a roll in the garden. He loves it!
