Autumn cometh

28th August 2015, Christon Bank, 6am

Is that autumn chill
That freshens the morning air
At village sunrise?

steal the colour

26th August 2015, Embleton Bay, 6am

After a brief show at sunrise, the sun soon disappeared into the grey cloud that would steal the colour from the day.

bright, breezy birthday

23rd August 2015, Newton Point, 4:30pm

After a day playing music at Embleton Craft/Flower/Music fair it was time for a bright and breezy walk.

We stopped off at The Ship Inn for a birthday pint but had to retreat into the pub to keep warm.

Inaccurate

22nd August 2015, Newton Links, 7am

Today's photo training course was cancelled due to a very rainy forecast.

In fact it's a beautiful morning

Forecasts prefer pessimism to accuracy these days. (I blame the lawyers)

Photobombed

21st August 2015, Low Newton, 6am
The aircraft trails cut across the sunrise this morning...

...so something else was needed.

Arriving

20th August 2015, Newton Links, 6am
Arriving at the beach to the first light of the golden sun...

A night off

19th August 2015, Newton Point, 7pm

A Night Off

A dull sky above a drab field
And yet we had a great walk
Because we had things
That the sun doesn't bring
We had each other
And we had time to talk

The beach

17th August 2015, Low Newton, 6am

The beach, this morning

Tourist

15th August 2015, Dunstanburgh, 9am

Today I am a tourist. An empty Saturday with plenty of time to sit and look the sea, listen to the kittiwakes and feel the cool breeze on my face.

I'm limited only by the impatience of the dog.

quiet

13th August 2015, Embleton Bay, 6am

All is still, bright and quiet this morning

for the grey and the blue

11th August 2015, Football Hole, 5pm

To love Northumberland
To love nature
Is to love the grey skies
As much as the blue

12th August 2015, Low Newton 6am

I go out,
At the same time each morning,
And eventually the sunrise comes to me...

up and away

10th August 2015, Christon Bank, 6am

Lovely morning Time for the sheep to get up and get out of the way. They like to sleep on the bridleway...

10th August 2015, Newton Point, 5pm

Nice and bright down at Football Hole. Nothing like an afternoon shower to clear the beach. It was good to have time to use the real camera (instead of the phone)

looking up or looking down?

3rd August 2015, Christon Bank, 6am

Nice morning for a stroll down to the woods...

3rd August 2015, Newton Point, 5pm

Lying here looking at the sky I wonder if the view is the same from space looking down to the ocean through the cloud?

7th August 2015, Howick Shore, 7pm

Last rays of sun. What photographers call 'the golden dog hour'

8th August 2015, Newton Links, 7am

A big empty beach this morning We plodged in the waves, ran around the sand and chased up and down the dunes then went home from breakfast...

same old

1st August 2015, Low Newton, 6am

Daisy's favourite spot to view the comings and goings on the golf course...

The meadowsweet in full bloom - I can't resist this shot (every year!)

Dogs old and new

This is what photography means to me:

We all breathe the same air but most hurry by.
If you let yourself be aware
Of where you are
And what you see around you,
And if you smell the grass and listen to the trees.
And if you taste the wind and feel the touch of the rain.
And if you let yourself acknowledge how this touches you inside.
Only then will you truly see the photograph
And you will know the art of photography

20th July 2015, Embleton Bay, 5pm

Guest whippet Zak - very muscly and newly rehomed by friends of ours. Lovely dog.

24th July 2015, Embleton Bay, 6am

The Skaith - I've recently learned that the name refers to all the marshy area, not just the water.

25th July 2015, Low Newton, 7am

There are people who come here and leave behind them a mermaid in the sand
These people are welcome back anytime

27th July 2015, Embleton Bay, 6pm

Daisy's hairy sister Bess.

31st July 2015, Low Newton, 6am

In bed at 1am after Rothbury Roots but up at 6am as the beach was calling...
