30th April12, Howick shore 8am
No wind. Mist and fog all around robbing the world of colour. With visibility diminished the other senses seemed heightened. As we walked down the path Daisy seemed to find smells on every blade of grass. The smells of damp vegetation and the Fulmars' guano filled the air for me. The Kittiwakes screamed their name and the sea raged in my left ear while skylarks sang above their fields in my right ear.

wrong weather? wrong clothes?
28th April12, Newton Point 8am
A freezing cold wind today again. Yesterday the wind kept the walk very short but today I had the winter jacket, fleecy hat etc all back in place.

2 miles brighter
24th April12, Newton Links, 3pm
It was dull and a bit rainy at home but 2 miles down to the beach and it was bright and pleasant for a run around...
...and a couple of photos

cloudwatching
23rd April12, Craster to Dunstanburgh, 8am
Cloudy today for Chris's training course but the sky was not a flat overcast. Lots of texture and interest in the clouds.
The diffuse light of a cloudy day is ideal for studies of texture.

lie back on the beach
15th April12, Howick, 5pm
Out of the wind it's a lovely warm day. This is the view from flat on my back on the beach...
Lie back on the beach
Run the sand through my fingers
Dog flies through the air...

sunrise story
14th April12, Embleton bay, 6am
Up at 5:30 am and it wasn't very promising. A cold blustery wind from the north, grey clouds all around threatening rain.
Nonetheless, it would be sunrise in half an hour and at this time in the morning Daisy gets the run of the beach.
On the beach with a gloomy scene pre-dawn. High ISO and slow shutter speed in a strong wind.
Huge banks of cloud fill the sky threateningly and the 6am sunrise comes and goes without a break. Never mind. Daisy and me have a good time playing on the big empty beach.
Ten minutes on and a break appears in the cloud allowing the colours of a previously hidden sunrise to appear.
Up close with a telephoto lens the sunrise is now as beautiful as any other.
As we turn for home the sun has thrown the dark gloomy clouds into sharp focus and bold patterns emerge. I think I was alone in witnessing the sunrise this morning from Embleton Bay (Daisy didn't pay much attention) and we headed off leaving the day to others.

wave watching
7th April12, Newton Point, 4pm
Daisy watches the waves.
8th April12, Newton Point, 7am
The National Trust has been cutting back the gorse and these piles of contorted wood seem to speak of a bygone age and some long forgotten industry.

little friends
6th April12, home, 9am
This is a goldcrest. One of Britain's smallest birds and one of the most tame.
This pair have spent the morning feeding off the clematis right outside my office window. Not known as garden birds so they're lovely to see.

standing in the shadows
5th April12, Dunstanburgh castle, 8am
Nice, quiet walk up to the Castle across the frosty golf course. Far away Cheviot is still covered with snow from earlier in the week.
Walking below the castle I saw the opportunity for one of my favourite shots. There, across the grass was the shadow of the castle so I stood in the bright patch where the window light fell...
...turned around and there was my shot.
Have a nice Easter everyone...
