Waiting for sunrise and it could've gone any way.

Today is the shortest day of the year.
As the sun dropped to the horizon, the grasses on the summit of the dunes were lit brightly with a final flourish of golden sunlight.
At the same time they were being whipped into a merry solstice dance by a stiff breeze.
Far below the sea rolled on into the shadows.
May the longer days to come be happy & peaceful.

After some blissfully quiet early grocery shopping it was up to Bamburgh for a guided walk in beautiful weather (until it rained!)

Down the icy beach road towards sunrise.

There was still ice on the beach and wintry showers passed by over the sea. Mostly they missed us.

Up and away after defrosting the car in the hope of a sunrise.
When I got there a passing shower obliterated the view to the south east but I had a feeling it might be worth waiting around to see what happened after the shower drifted off.

Our spell of dry but very cold weather continues. -2C this morning.
There were reports of people stranded on the M25 for hours due to London snow.
Not so bad here.
