Down to the rocks with the sinking sun casting a low light across the shore. The first pattern I spotted was this pleasing abstract...

...but then I spotted a dancing figure and a dog. See what I mean?

light and shade

bright sun this morning but light and shade in the woods. These ivy leaves looked best in the shade...

...while the bright sun at the edge of the woods is what makes this picture.

No Beach

Daisy is still firmly on the lead and we're avoiding sand. Today we walked down to the edge of Embleton Bay but there was a spring high tide and no beach anyway.

Two Days With Clouds

We've not been up this way for ages due to the winter livestock but they're gone now and it was nice to be back. The sky was beautiful. Lots of sand piled up in the dunes by the strong wind.

The beach was huge this morning (it must be a spring tide) and the big sky was reflected in all its splendour.

Giant sundial

7th Feb 2013, Embleton Bay and Dunstanburgh, 8am

Either side of winter solstice the giant sundial of the Lilburn tower of Dunstanburgh Castle casts its mighty shadow across the golf course at sunrise. From within the shadow the sun lines up with the windows. I took a similar picture last February (as those of you with my calendar will know if you've remembered to turn the page to February)!

My footsteps on the beach. No Daisy prints as she was somewhere else. Very relaxing knowing she's safely dotting about somewhere just a whistle away.

This lovely old tree trunk should make a beautiful photograph - it's been here a few weeks or months even. This is the best shot I've had to date but doesn't get its best side.

street life

I had a few days in Glasgow this week.
In a city, even a generously green city like Glasgow, you can be in a place where there is nothing natural visible. Nothing growing, nothing living. Here are two examples...

Contrast this with our walk this morning back in Northumberland - surrounded by life and nature. In the first two photographs I have sought out scenes completely uninfluenced by man. In the 2nd two, there are signs of life but they are distant and unimportant.
