A different angle

First a few familiar sunrise scenes. Each day is unique and this morning was calm, clear and very beautiful (how many times have I used that word on this blog!)

...and then a different angle. This is one of the original old 1930's huts - a family holiday home that all too soon became a billet for the army in what was a sealed off military zone from 39-45.

Trees

A lovely sunrise behind the woods with trees silhouetted on the horizon.

I went looking for Ash trees after all the publicity about ash die-back which could wipe them all from the face of the countryside. I also recently listened to a podcast all about the history and folklore of the Ash tree.
Ash trees are renowned for their energy. These two trees have appeared on this blog before and they have the typical ash feature that the original trees are very damaged but fresh growth is still sprouting vigourously. When they're not in leaf they're easily recognised by the upturn at the end of each branch terminating in a shiny black bud.

Worth the trip

bits of trees

17th Nov12, Howick, 4pm

Daisy gives me the eye - her multipurpose fur coat is ready for a walk. She looks disparaging and impatient as I put on trousers, boots, jackets, gloves, hat, get the phone, get the keys, get the headphones, get the camera, get poop bags and treats...

Eventually I'm ready and we head for Howick as the spring tides have stolen the beach for now. At Howick burn the trees come down to the beach and it's just a nice balance of landscape and seascape for me.

Howick gardens are now closed which means they're open (!) so we walked up The Long Walk past my favourite Scot's Pine - so tall it was catching the last sun while the valley was in deepening shadow.

something for everyone

A lovely morning on a nearly empty beach. I enjoyed the solitude as we walked south (although it was nice to have a chat with a fellow photographer half way along) and Daisy enjoyed the arrival of her pals Grace, Milo and Buffy as we headed back north.

A slightly different view across The Skaith from an elevated position at the edge of the golf course.

We walked around the back of the course and dropped down to the beach here...
