North and South

Two square views 1st North towards the blue sky and white fluffy clouds, then South towards the sun with a snow or hail shower at the horizon. Happy Easter everyone.

strange light

Force 8?

23rd March 2013, Howick, 4pm

The wind is howling. Force 6-7 gusting 8 they said on the shipping forecast. I dug out my ski goggles for this afternoon's walk and very good they were too! The wind had blown sea foam right across the path and into the fields. Daisy was a bit unsure...

24th March 2013, Low Newton, 8am

A walk on the beach (with goggles firmly in place) into the teeth of the wind. For a brief moment the sun broke through and the grey became silver and beautiful. Then we turned for home with the wind at our backs.

weather you can feel

11th March 2013, Embleton Bay, 8am

A very cold NE wind whipped in from Siberia and threw the sea into an angry rage. Wintry showers blew in every 10 minutes and seemed to throw their hail at the beach, the dunes and the one man and his dog with a vindictive fury.

Beautiful though.

worse things happen at sea

10th March 2013, Newton Links, 4pm

A huge cloud approached from the N Sea. We fastened up our coats and kept walking. As it got a darker a few crystals of ice started bouncing off the sand and then off our heads. The hail cloud raced overhead and so the downpour didn't last long and it headed West to drop on someone else.

showery light

10th March 2013, Dunstanburgh, 7am

Showery, freezing weather this morning. Gloomy, grey skies in one direction, bright blue skies in the other.

Dramatic light around the castle - the sun will shine through the windows for a few days before it swings round towards the North

The rocks known as the cannonball boulders at low tide with a bright, shadowy light.

We dropped down to Embleton Bay to find acres of empty sand which Daisy stood and surveyed for a while.

Here's the same view in colour just because I like it.

changeable weather

Quiet contemplation with her back to the world.

A brighter day and Daisy's (and my) first day back on the beach for 2 weeks.

Grey returns but the monochrome rocks look their best in the flat light.
