changing skies

31st December 2019, Dunstanburgh, 8am

The last sunrise of the year...

30th December 2019, Embleton Bay, 7:45am

We were quite early to the beach - more than half an hour before sunrise and the first colours of the new day were developing across the sky

As the moment of sunrise grew closer the clouds changed colour and patterns swept to and fro

Christmas Day

25th December 2019, Hauxley, 3pm

A very pleasant walk on Christmas Day under wonderful late afternoon light.

Monday 23 December 2019

squeezed

23rd December 2019, Alnmouth, 8am

Me and the dogs had a play on the beach while we waited for sunrise.  When it came, the sun just squeezed its way in between the clouds

Saturday 21 December 2019

blue and grey

20th December 2019, Budle Bay, 8am

No sunrise this morning just grey and blue that gradually got brighter as we walked along leaving tracks side by side on the clean sand.

first peep

18th December 2019, Alnmouth, 8am

A very orange sky for half an hour before sunrise this morning. Coquet Island floated peacefully out on the horizon beyond the frozen dunes until my attention was drawn to the first peep of the sun.

Tuesday 17 December 2019

inspirational

17th December 2019, Longhorsely, 10am

With ears flying over the frozen puddles Hattie and Henry came for a run today.

17th December 2019, Alnmouth, 3pm

Sunrise is in the middle of the afternoon at this time of year and is way round in the SW.

This picturesque and inspiring couple have been married for 60 years and as they walked down to the sea hand-in-hand I couldn't resist taking their photo. We had a lovely chat afterwards and they said they'd been photographed before!

I'll be sending them a print of this.

family sunrise

14th December 2019, Alnmouth, 8am

Gorgeous morning walk with the 3 dogs and Lucy

Friday 13 December 2019

nothing changes

13th December 2019, Embleton Bay, 8am

I'm standing in the same place as yesterday but for some people the whole world has changed.

The world hasn't really changed though.

Thursday 12 December 2019

same as usual

12th December 20129, Embleton bay, 8am

It's general election day and not many people outside of the world of politics are very excited about it.

Meanwhile down on the beach the earth rolls around the sun same as usual and another sunrise greets us from behind the castle.

Coming up to the shortest day in 10 days or so and if you're in the right place at the right time then at this time of year the sun rises right beside the Lilburn Tower of Dunstanburgh Castle.

dodging showers

12th December 2019, Embleton bay, 10am

We were dry but there was rain north and south of us.   Showery weather often gives beautiful light.

Tuesday 3 December 2019

up early

3rd December 2019, Embleton Bay, 7am

Daisy was up at 6am with a rumbly tummy and wouldn't settle so I decided to head North to the old stamping grounds in good time for sunrise.

Being back here made her, and me, feel better and it was a gorgeous sunrise from half an hour before dawn to well after the sun broke the horizon.
