sandbags

Yesterday evening was lovely and bright again and the surf was up. There were a good few surfers dotted about but none doing anything photogenic!

4th June09, Embleton Bay, 7pm

5th June09, Dunstan Farm, 8am

This road across the farm is part of the National Cycle Network and I've cycled along here a few times but never walked it.

The road leads past a couple of WWII pillboxes built to defend the coast (although this one faces inland). There's loads of them around this area but these ones, built of cement sandbags, are relatively rare. I always wonder if the boys manning these sites were huddled, cold and scared of invasion or whether they sat around, smoked, played cards and were glad to be posted here rather than on the front line. Bit of both I suppose.
