what is unique?

8th November 2017, Dunstanburgh, 7:30am

I heard someone say that sunrises are too obvious so they don't photograph them any more. For me every sunrise is unique but sometimes you have to search for that uniqueness. Just at the moment, every cloudless sunrise is the same and with almost boring predictability the castle projects its shadow across the golf course making the 'sun through the windows' shot very easy to capture.

"So what makes it different today?" is the question I try to ask myself.

Today it was the birds - crows (or similar) circling round the battlements as their ancestors have done for hundreds of years.

See the view then Find the photograph.

woodland sunrise

7th November 2017, Christon Bank, 7:30am

Just a quick walk to the woods today.  The footpath through these woods is impassable in the summer with nettles and brambles so it's nice that this growth has died back again.

Daisy has an endearing way of staring through a gate.  I think she thinks she is hidden from view.  Today she was watching the cows which roam across these fields.  Every local I know keeps well away from them so this was the end of our walk and our turning point for home.

shaggy dog

6th November 2017, Dunstanburgh, 7:30am

Around the castle in glorious morning sun.  Daisy's fur looks striking when backlit (or a scruffy mess depending on your viewpoint).

Some beautiful texture on an old fence post.

Sunrise Sunday

5th November 2017, Embleton Bay, 2017

I joined the other photographers and the morning gulls waiting for the sun.  I could see sunrise would be delayed by the bank of cloud at the horizon.

Soon enough the sun broke through the cloud and shone across the sea

Daisy goes a rather pink colour in the first light of sunrise.

A Pleasant Way To Spend a Saturday

4th November 2017, Embleton Bay, 7:30am

A quick run about for Daisy.  Plenty of room on the beach under big cloudy skies.

4th November 2017, Low Newton, 9am

I was back in for 10 minutes then off out again for a great 4h PhotoWalk with Jo and Nic.  Lots to see as the light changed during the morning.

Sea Rocket in full flower despite the lateness of the season.

After coffee break we found these unseasonal daisy and spent a fair while photographing them in the bright sunlight.

4th November 2017, Howick shore, 3pm

I was back in for 10 minutes and headed back out with Daisy for a quick walk before the darkness brought the dreaded fireworks.  Poor Daisy really doesn't like them.

normal for November

2nd November 2017, Dunstanburgh, 7:30am

Feels like November but a nice sky behind the castle.

away awa'

1st November 2017, Embleton Bay, 8am

After a couple of days with a cold it's back to the land of the living for me and back to a more energetic dog walk for Daisy dog.

1st November 2017, Football Hole, 4pm

Watching the new series of Blue Planet on BBC inspired this little clip.  The iPhone does an amazing job of SloMo
