ten minutes later

A quick look out the window and I jumped in the car and was on the beach 10 mins later.

Luckily I took the time to put a warm jacket on and it was well worth it.  Th pre-dawn colours were spectacular.

The new walkway down to the beach at Alnmouth lines up nicely with today’s sunrise. 

Unfortunately as you can see in the 2nd photo, it ends in mid air due to erosion from recent storms. 

It’s ironic that the old ramp it was built on top of would still be useable…

sinking feelings

I watched the sun sinking in the afternoon sky then walked up the beach as the light receded from the sand and from the waves.

The bright sun was reflecting off the grand windows of Alnmouth onto the waters of the Ann.

I climbed up the dunes from the shadowy beach to catch the last of the sun as it set.

How the weather changes ☔️☀️ 

After a day and night of non-stop rain, there was not a cloud in the sky. 

Only the closest examination of the beach revealed the pock-marks above high tide where the rain had left its calling card.

It's not everyone's cup of tea but ICM (intentional camera movement) is a tool the photographer may use to 'interpret' the landscape. So, rather than just capture a view as it looks to every passer by, you create an interpretation of the view. I don't do it often but I quite liked the effect this morning and it seems to me to be more interesting and atmospheric than the simple photo of a tree at sunrise.

soft waves of sunrise

Thanks to the local birds for a timely flypast...

The "cannonball boulders" N. of Dunstanburgh Castle are a popular spot to photograph. The shiny whinstone reflects the sunlight and the curve of the shoreline draws the eye up to the castle. 

I visited with my photo training client this morning and we had the place to ourselves and a perfect high tide, nice waves and beautiful sunrise colours. 

You can see snow on the castle rock. It was a chilly morning. 

I have used a one second exposure to soften the moving waves into a gentle blur.

After the sun rose, the breaking waves were spectacular in the golden light.

quality time

 18th Jan 24, Warkworth, 3pm

It's nice that the days are stretching out already and it's still daylight at 4pm.  And it's a very special type of daylight.

I walked up the beach which slowly slipped into the shadows as the sun set behind the dunes. When I climbed up the dunes I caught the last colour of the sunset and I was struck by the simplicity of this little tree on the horizon. I left the taller trees in the frame to give the option of cropping them out later on but I quite like them there.
