Two different views

24th March 2017, Low Newton, 6am

Up early with Daisy.  This is the closest I got this year to an equinox sunrise due East.

24th March 2017, Embleton Bay, 8am

Rosie's 1:1 PhotoTrail was excellent fun with a very enthusiastic lady who really got down to some serious photography!  This one position yielded two very different compositions:  Close up shells and a telephoto shot across to the happy couple and the castle.

Northumberland welcomes careful visitors

15th March 2017, Embleton Bay, 7:30am

So our precious Embleton Bay has won the Countryfile Award for Best Beach in the UK 2017.

If you're coming to visit you'll find it is beautiful, peaceful, somewhat bleak and magnificently wild.  It's a home to nature and is protected by the National Trust, has status as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and large parts are Sites of Special Scientific Interest.  It's unspoiled, clean and very special.

Come and enjoy what it is.  Come and walk or run, let your dog roam free and safely, photograph the landscapes and seascapes, sit, relax, refresh your mind, body and spirit and spend a few quid in the local pubs and cafes.

Remember it's a wild place with few facilities, not much parking, no lifeguards and often a keen wind.  To many of us, the real Northumberland Coast experience is often to be found outside of the busy summer months.

Help us keep it special.

companions

13th March 2017, Newton Point, 3pm

The Yellowhammer is a bird that means a lot to me as they have been my companion on long country walks since I lived in the Scottish Borders. I love to hear their song and they never fail to lift my spirits. I'm not a bird photographer and I'm not generally motivated by photography gear and gadgets but my new Canon G3X has opened up photography opportunities I simply couldn't do before. I'm very impressed with it.

all in the mind

10th March 2017, Newton Point and Newton Bay, 4pm

Sometimes an ordinary walk turns into a photography trip. Yesterday's clouds were letting occasional bursts of bright sunlight through and I wasn't far from the car when I saw this couple walking together. That shot seemed to flick a switch in my head and my photography mindset kicked in. I was more relaxed than of late as a missing dog had been reported found and reunited and I hadn't realised how that had been weighing on my mind as I was always on the lookout for him. Photography is all in the mind and you have to be in the right fettle. We carried on our walk and I was pleased to come home with a nice set of varied images of my little corner of Northumberland.

A very peaceful walk with no-one else around until right at the end when Daisy got to play with her good pal Cassie.  Now everyone's happy.

watching the sunrise

5th March 2017, Beadnell Bay, 6:30am

A beautiful morning watching the sunrise with no-one else in sight.

The new sunlight plays tricks with shadows on the sand...

...and lights the top of things first.
